Hosted Checkout

A simpler path to checkout.

Use a Rainbow Pay-hosted customer payment experience when you want to reduce frontend payment complexity while retaining a consistent purchase journey.

Capabilities

Redirect flow

Send the customer to a hosted payment page and bring them back when payment is complete.

Payment method selection

Customers choose from the methods enabled for your configuration.

Success and failure URLs

Return customers to the page that matches the outcome of their payment.

Transaction token

Each payment has a token you use to track, retrieve and refund it.

Status callback

Your server receives the final status independently of the customer's browser.

Server-side creation

Payments are created from your server, so your private key never reaches the browser.

Payment security responsibilities

Hosted payment architectures may reduce the amount of payment data handled directly by a merchant. The merchant remains responsible for determining and validating its applicable PCI DSS obligations.

The redirect flow, step by step

  1. 01

    Create the payment

Your server calls the API with the amount, currency, order number, callback URL and your success and failure URLs. The response includes a payment token and the hosted payment page URL.

    POST /api/v1/payments
  2. 02

    Redirect the customer

Your site sends the customer to the hosted page, where they select a payment method and complete payment, including 3-D Secure where required.

  3. 03

    Return the customer

When payment finishes, the customer is returned to your success URL or failure URL.

  4. 04

    Confirm by callback

Rainbow Pay posts the final status to your callback URL. Fulfil the order on the callback — or after retrieving the payment — not on the browser redirect alone.

When Hosted Checkout fits

Hosted Checkout suits businesses that want to launch with a smaller frontend payment surface, teams without dedicated payment engineering, and platforms that prefer the payment form to be maintained by their payment provider.

You keep control of the order: your server creates the payment, chooses the return URLs and decides what to do when the callback arrives.

A consistent customer journey

Customers move from your checkout to the payment page and back in one flow. The page can be presented in a supported locale passed when the payment is created, and it shows the methods enabled for your configuration.
