Restricted & Prohibited Businesses

Version 1.0 · Last updated:

Rainbow Pay serves mainstream, legitimate commercial businesses. Some categories of business cannot be accepted, and others are subject to additional review or conditions. This page lists examples so that applicants know in advance.

1. Our approach

We assess every applicant individually, taking into account applicable law, our anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing obligations, and the requirements of our payment partners and the relevant payment schemes. Whether a business can be accepted may depend on the jurisdiction, the licences it holds and the services requested.

2. Restricted and prohibited categories

Examples of businesses and activities we do not accept, or accept only where explicitly approved under the applicable rules, include:

  • illegal goods or services, or any activity unlawful in the jurisdiction of the business or its customers;
  • unlicensed gambling;
  • adult content or adult services;
  • unlicensed financial services;
  • binary options;
  • unlicensed foreign exchange trading or investment schemes;
  • cryptocurrency or digital asset activity, unless explicitly approved under the relevant regulatory framework;
  • weapons, ammunition and related items;
  • controlled substances and drug paraphernalia;
  • counterfeit goods, or goods or content that infringe intellectual property rights;
  • business involving sanctioned persons, entities or jurisdictions, or intended to evade sanctions;
  • money laundering, terrorist financing or related activity;
  • fraud, scams, and deceptive or misleading marketing practices;
  • shell companies, or businesses that conceal their ownership, nature or activities; and
  • any business or practice that breaches payment scheme rules.
This list is illustrative and not exhaustive. Rainbow Pay, its payment partners and relevant payment schemes may impose additional restrictions.

3. Changes after onboarding

Merchants must tell us before changing their business model, products or services. If a merchant's activity falls within a restricted or prohibited category, we may suspend or end the relationship in accordance with the applicable merchant or service agreement.

4. Questions
